Set of three French, mid century silvered metal nesting/side tables with inset foxed finish mirror tops. The largest top table has a fluted gallery edge. The four legs have fluted columns and ball effect feet. Simple rod stretchers connect the legs for an added detail. Also known as stack tables, the first nest of tables was made by Thomas Sheraton in the 18th century. The first tables were made from mahogany or satinwood. Later on, designers used Chinese-style lacquer, papier-mache, brass and so on. The tables were created in threes or fours so that smaller tables could fit under the bigger ones thereby taking up less space but also proving to be very useful as occasional side tables for entertaining.
