Rare Christofle silver plated hammered metal Art Deco fruit coupe “Normandie” designed by Luc Lanel (1893 – 1965) for the first class dining rooms of the Normandie ocean liner.Clean modernist lines with concentric circle etched to the center resting on a rounded circular base consisting of four spheres. Signed underneath “CHRISTOFLE’ with two Christofle hallmarks and the number ’40’.
Luc Lanel (1893-1966), a ceramist, worked with the architect Jean-Charles Moreux and with Leleu. He was Christofle’s artistic director from 1922 to 1942, and created many models for the Christofle catalogue, including the goldsmith’s line that equipped the Normandy liner
