Ovoid copper art nouveau spirit tea kettle with its matching brass stand and spirit burner by Carl Deffner of Essungen c.1910. The base shows the makers mark of two crossed halberds and the letters C. D. above an E.
The Deffner firm was established in Esslingen in 1815 by Carl Christian Ulrich Deffner and existed through several generations of the family until 1969. Around the period before WWI the company was a very large concern employing around 500 people. Carl Deffner (1856-1948) took over the firm from his father Wilhelm in 1900 with his brother Otto (1866-1949). Esslingen am Neckar is a city in the Stuttgart Region of Baden-WĂźrttemberg in southern Germany.
