A large antique Copper heart, a gift from a confraternity (religious education) from Breda in the Netherlands to Ste Marie de Meerle c. 1870. The heart symbolizes God’s love and the Flames referencing God being “light”. The dagger through the heart representing the Virgin Mary, the grieving Mother of Christ and roses that also served as symbols of the Virgin Mary. Inscription reads “De Brooderschap van den H. Bernardus te breda van Onze Lieve Vrouw van Meerle 8 Septembre 1870”. This translates to: The Brotherhood of St. Bernard in Breda of Our dear Lady of Meerle 8 Septembre 1870. (Meerle is a village in the Belgian municipality of Hoogstraten). A unique piece.
