Antique 19th century French altar crucifix showing silver plated Christ mounted on a cross of blackened pear wood. Above the head of Jesus is a plaque “INRI” which is Iesus Nazarenus Rex Ludaeorum, meaning “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews”. The snake at the foot of the cross is a symbol for Satan. Translated inscription to the base, reads, Souvenir offered to Mr Levicaire Leen on behalf of the Association of the Holy Family Parish of St Joseph in Verniers 1875. Dismantles into two parts.
