"The P R I V A T E writing cabinet in the Könings apartment was one of the first premises of the New Palace, built for Friedrich II. have been set up. Here the ruler devoted himself to his correspondence in complete retreat, surrounded by precious furniture and fine china.⁠

The fine murals and the neglect of lush gold-plated plastering on the walls emphasize the private character of the room.⁠
⁠
A feature of the writing cabinet are two large wall mirrors made of porcelain. The creator of these masterful works of art was the model master Friedrich Elias Meyer, who created them in the Royal Porcelain Factory in 1768. Meyer had left the manufacturing in Meissen shortly before and was spoiled in Berlin".⁠

"How P O W E R and art shaped Rome’s elite

Rome’s aristocratic families have shaped the Eternal City with their passion for art and architecture. Names like Farnese, Colonna, Torlonia, and Pamphilj (yes, that’s the correct spelling!) echo through history, not just for their power but for their role as patrons of beauty and grandeur. Their legacies can still be felt in the palaces and residences they left behind.

These families were deeply intertwined with the Papacy, often holding positions of immense influence. The Farnese family produced Pope Paul III, a key figure in the Counter-Reformation. Their influence extended to stunning residences like the Villa Farnesina, built for the banker Agostino Chigi and later acquired by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese. This villa is renowned for frescoes like Raphael’s “The Triumph of Galatea” and the “Loggia of Cupid and Psyche.”

The Colonna family, one of the oldest in Rome, shaped the city with their diplomatic and military clout. The Palazzo Colonna’s Galleria, with its mirrors, stucco, and gilded details, feels like stepping into a Baroque dream. This family’s ties to popes and emperors ensured their artistic commissions reflected their power.

Meanwhile, the Torlonia family rose as Vatican bankers. Their Villa Torlonia, though more modern, features Neoclassical interiors adorned with archaeological treasures, reflecting a collector’s passion deeply tied to Roman antiquity.

The Pamphilj family’s Palazzo Doria Pamphilj offers another window into aristocratic Rome. The palace is home to a private gallery with masterpieces by Caravaggio, Velázquez, and Bernini alongside luxurious decorative arts.

Even the Vatican Museums, while not a palace per se, embody this legacy of opulence and creativity. Their galleries, curated by popes over centuries, are treasure troves of Renaissance and Baroque artistry".
