📍"Tsarskoye Selo State Museum and Heritage Site, Saint Petersburg, Russia… meaning “Tsar’s Village,” a park and palace complex once home to the Russian imperial family comprising multiple significant architectural palaces and gardens including Catherine Palace and Alexander Palace…⁠
⁠
The complex, according to historian Robert K. Massie, an American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner who focused on the Romanovs, Tsarskoye Selo “was a magnificent symbol, a supreme gesture, of Russian autocracy… Inside the park, monuments, obelisks, and triumphal arches studded 800 acres of velvet green lawn. An artificial lake, big enough for small sailboats, could be emptied and filled like a bathtub… The two palaces stood 500 yards apart in the Imperial Park… Outside the palace gates, Tsarskoye Selo, was an elegant provencial town [which] included mansions of the aristocracy lining the wide tree-shaded boulevard…”⁠

📍Casa Nàvas - Reus, Catalonia, Spain… One of Europe’s best examples of Art Nouveau, built between 1901 and 1908 by Barcelona architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and decorator Gaspar Homar for Joachim Nàvas, a wealthy textile merchant, and his wife as their personal residence and “house shop.” With an unlimited budget, Casa Nàvas became one of Montaner’s most luxurious works and is the only modernist work in Europe that has survived to the present day as it was when it was first built, and this includes the interiors in terms of furnishings, antiques and decorative arts as well. The house is open to the public @casanavas.reus⁠
