A sculptural geometric Mid-Century table lamp in a polished and brushed brass finish in square tubular sections by the artist Philippe Jean. The lamp has been re wired to NZ standards and includes the black shade shown.
Philippe Jean, was born on May 7, 1931 at Versailles and died on June 19, 1987i n Jouy (Eure-et-Loir). He was a French sculptor and designer from the 1970s .It was at the end of the 1940s that Philippe Jean entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Versailles (painting workshop). At that time René Aubert 2 , painter and lithographer, was director of the School. Very quickly he turned towards his initial passion and joined the sculpture workshop of the École Boulle in Paris. Upon leaving school, in the years 1952-1953, Philippe Jean obtained a place with Carlhian , one of the great Parisian decorators of the time. He then launched into the creation of packaging, then into the antiques trade. He finally devoted himself to design and sculpture from the 1970s. From the beginning of the 1970s, Philippe Jean began creating and manufacturing lighting and contemporary furniture, mixing stainless steel and plexiglass. He regularly exhibited his creations at the Salon des Ateliers d’Art et de la Création and at the Salon du Luminaire in Paris. In 1976, he participated in the first International Lighting Exhibition in Milan (Euroluce) where he exhibited for several years in a row. He also exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. The originality of his creations, distributed throughout the world, earned him numerous awards and are in high demand.
