Jean Laudy was a Dutch painter who was born in Venlo in the Netherlands on May 4,1877 â and died in Belgium, February 6th, 1956. He was one of the official portraitists of King Albert 1st and King Leopold III of Belgium. He studied at the Beaux-Arts Academies in Brussels and Antwerp. During the early 20th century, the critics were glowing.
âA wonderful gift of harmony and exceedingly clever technique.â
The Connoisseur, 1921.
âJean Laudyâs exhibition is brilliant, dazzling, blinding. It is easy to understand that the artist creates with joy and that he must create, that he obeys an imperative need.â
Magazine printed in Brussels, 1921
âfull of a vitality, which is not allowed to run riot. There are many good things, but not many so brilliant as these.â
